Join the IOP’s Nonlinear and Complex Physics Group, along with Imperial College's Grantham Institute for Climate Change and Environment, for a day of talks and discussion around questions at the core of how we study one of our most important, complex systems – the climate.

The what: What are the aims of climate science? What key questions are at its core?

The how: How do we do climate science? How should we balance insights from observations and simple and complicated models to build understanding?

The limits: How can uncertainty be accurately characterised and conveyed? Is there a limit to how much accuracy is possible in global climate predictions given the nature of the system?

Looking Outwards: How should society’s needs influence our scientific approaches? How might scientists approach making sure their knowledge is understood and taken into account?

Speakers will address the issue from scientific, philosophical and societal points of view, and discussion will be encouraged. Abstracts for short contributions welcomed.

The event is free to attend, but pre-registration is required.
